Iron back Odyssey: the (almost) final frontier... March 12, 2016 23:51

Roll Up Roll Up Roll Up! Roll stitched, stuffed and stitched again. It's really important to get the roll as solid and even as possible, this is the foundation of the chair, take your time. Feel the love. Ditto the lumbar, firm, evenly stuffed for ultimate comfort later on. Top Tips: Linen scrim is more flexible than hessian so great on rolls like this. |
Now...if your purse can stretch to it, then use horse hair to cover the inside back....if the purse is a little tighter, fear not, coir fibre will also do a wonderful job. Just try and make your bridle ties even, and put equal amounts of hair in each loop. If you are trying out upholstery at home and don't have a upholstery warehouse/trade account, then head to JA Milton, they sell to both trade and novice upholsterers and you can buy in smaller amounts: http://www.jamiltonupholstery.co.uk |
Now get your wig on....yup...more stuffing on the lumbar and the arms. |
And then cover all your hard work up with Calico! No one sees the work that goes into these chairs. Skewer the calico firmly into place...tight tight tight. And then stitch onto the outside back and stitch the arm pieces to the back piece. |
|
Trim off the excess Calico and make it nice and neat. You can use a skewer to poke through the calico if you need to move any stray bumps or lumps of hair/coir around. Nearly there! |
