Upholstery by Val Davison

Val's interest in upholstery started way back in the 80's at a local authority evening class. After several years of sporadic evening classes, and a growing collection of chairs needing re-upholstery, she embarked on the City and Guilds in traditional and modern upholstery at London Metropolitan University (formerly the London College of Furniture). Val completed the Advanced Upholstery course in 2009 and was awarded Second Prize in Advanced Upholstery skills by The Worshipful Company of Upholders (www.upholders.co.uk) for the re-upholstery of a pair of deep buttoned Victorian parlour chairs.

The re-upholstery of Georgian and Victorian chairs using traditional techniques and materials remains Val's passion as the use of period frames ensures each chair, or pair, is a one-off with its own challenges and interest that is unlikely to be repeated. All too often period chairs have fabulous frames but the upholstery has seen better days. With re-upholstery and classically styled fabrics that complement both modern and traditional interior design these chairs can be loved once more and will give years of pleasure as well as being visually attractive.
